    Grade 9 History

    All social studies courses are yearlong, one-credit courses.

    United States I

    This is the first year of a three-year course in American history. Following a chronological approach, the course begins with the events leading to the American Revolution through the conclusion of the Reconstruction Period following the Civil War. Other topics of study include the early Industrial Revolution, the reform movements of the 1800s, westward expansion, the Civil War and Reconstruction.

    Students will also examine the social, economic and political ideologies that shaped the nation during the first half of the 19th century and the issues that created the sectional and ideological differences that led

    to the Civil War. Throughout this course students will focus their attention on four major themes as they relate to the course content. These themes are Humanism, the social, religious and ethical issues surrounding the course topics;  War, the causes and impact on shaping the nation as we know it; Revolution, the ideas that challenged the status quo and Governance, the institutions created during this time period that satisfied the needs of the people and regulated their activities.

     

    Honors United States History I*

    In addition to the description above, students in this course will explore history through an analysis of primary source documents to recreate historical debate. They will analyze and evaluate multiple perspectives and develop and articulate their own points of view through oral and written reports.

     

    Grade 10 Social Studies

    United States II

    This is the second year of a three-year course in American history. Following a chronological approach, the course begins with the end of Reconstruction to World War II. Students will examine how events of the past are connected to today examining significant events such as the Great Depression, World War I and II. Throughout this course students will focus their attention on four major themes as they relate to the course content. These themes are Humanism, the moral, religious and ethical issues surrounding the

    course topic; War, its causes and impact on shaping the world as we know it;Revolution, the ideas that challenged the status quo and Governance, the institutions created during this time period that satisfied the needs of the people and regulated their activities.

     

    Honors United States History II *

    In addition to the description above, students in this course will explore history through an analysis of primary source documents to recreate historical debate. They will analyze and evaluate multiple perspectives and develop and articulate their own points of view through oral and written reports.

     

    Grade 11 Social Studies

    United States III

    This is the third year that American history will follow a chronological approach.   The course begins with the Start of WWII to the present day. Students will examine how events of the past are connected to today's examining significant events such as the World War II, The Cold War the Civil Rights Movement, and the election process. Throughout this course students will focus their attention on four major themes as they relate to the course content. These themes are Humanism, the moral, religious and ethical issues

    surrounding the course topics: War; its causes and impact on shaping the world as we know it;  Revolution, the ideas that challenged the status quo.

     

    United States III Honors*

    Grade 12 Social Studies

    Senior Global Citizenship

    Today, more so than ever in the past, life on our planet is interrelated.  This project-based course is designed to give students a modern global perspective.  The Senior Global Citizenship course will focus on US Government, World Religions, Middle East relations, UN and Declaration of Human Rights, along with world global Issues Students will examine how historical, governmental and religious conditions have shaped the world today.  Students will also analyze the impact of modern global issues on societies today.
