• Introduction to Automotive Technology 




    Course Information

    Start Date: November 14, 2022

    End Date: March 30th,  2023

    This is a 300 hours introductory course designed to prepare graduates for an entry-level job as an Automotive Technician.  This is supported by a MA Career Technical Initiative grant, and there is no cost to eligible participants. Eligibility determination and enrollment is done through the MassHire Career Center. 

    Classes will be a combination of in-person and online classes, plus asynchronous independent learning.  The 20 hour weekly schedule will be:

    • In-person classes:

      • Mondays & Thursdays: 4 pm - 8 pm at GLTS

      • Saturdays: 8 am - 1 pm at GLTS

    • Online classes:

      • Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 4pm - 5:30 pm

    • Asynchronous independent learning:

      • 4 hours each week

    The student will learn practical skills in the following technical areas: basic shop safety, review of hand and power tools and equipment, basic vehicle electrical safety, introduction to vehicle diagnostics, introduction to brakes, basic vehicle maintenance, introduction to the auto business - accountability, quality and how mechanics are paid. Theory will be covered in the classroom and students will work on donated and customer vehicles in the shop.

    Certifications: SP/2 Automotive Services Safety and Pollution Safety, ASE 609 Air Conditioning Recycling Certification
