Superintendent-Director John N. Lavoie was a member and Valedictorian of the second graduating class at Greater Lawrence Technical School. His desire to share his passion for carpentry started when he became a Carpentry Instructor at Greater Lawrence Technical School in 1973 until 1996. Supt. Lavoie furthered his education at night and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education.
Superintendent Lavoie's leadership continued in 1996 as an Administrator at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School and Greater Lowell Technical High School, where he served as Assistant Superintendent prior to returning to Greater Lawrence Technical School in July, 2010 as Superintendent-Director, dedicating 50 years to vocational education.
Superintendent Lavoie brings a hands-on approach to educational leadership and brings value to both academic and vocational pathways, while balancing the financial needs of the school. His leadership values exemplifies the promotion of maintaining high standards for all students while promoting equity in education and providing quality career training. Over the past ten years, through his hard work and dedication as Superintendent-Director, Supt. Lavoie sees as one of his successes as providing more access for students, growing Greater Lawrence Technical School from 1,195 to 1,766 students. His future plan is to continue that growth until his retirement. He believes that GLTS is the backbone that supports the economic growth throughout our sending communities.

Brenda RichardsonAssistant Superintendent

Brenda joined GLTS in 2019 as the Director of Admissions and Counseling and transitioned to Assistant Superintendent in February 2024. In her current role, she collaborates with the Superintendent and key stakeholders to promote the district's vision, strategic planning initiatives, and oversees district communications and community relations. She is also dedicated to fostering positive school-community relationships and supporting partnerships with local and state agencies. With nineteen years of experience as a School Counselor, including seventeen years at a previous vocational-technical school, Brenda also brings eight years of experience in Corrections and Human Services.
Active in the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators (MAVA), Brenda has served as Co-Chair of both the Admissions and Guidance Director's Committees. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Boston College and a Master of Education from Rivier University.

Chet JacksonPrincipal

Chet joined GLTS in August 2024. Previously, he served as the principal of North Andover High School (NAHS) for seven years, following a decade as assistant principal. Under his leadership, NAHS maintained NEASC accreditation, transitioned to a full-year schedule with expanded elective offerings, and established partnerships with the Merrimack College Early College Program and the Greater Lawrence Tech After Dark program.
Before his tenure in North Andover, Mr. Jackson spent eight years as a math instructor at GLTS, where he also served as the Boys Varsity Basketball Coach for four years. Returning to GLTS as principal is a full-circle moment in his career, reinforcing his dedication to technical education and the Greater Lawrence community.
Mr. Jackson believes that flexibility and reflection are key components of effective leadership. He values collaboration and encourages all staff to take an active role in shaping the school’s success. His goal is to ensure that GLTS continues to provide students with rigorous academic and technical opportunities that prepare them for careers and beyond.
A graduate of Boston College (Class of 1997), Mr. Jackson earned a master’s degree in education from Fitchburg State and a master’s degree in administration from UMass Lowell.

Melissa MartelDirector of Finance

Melissa joined Greater Lawrence Technical School (GLTS) in 2022. As Director of Finance she provides budget and financial advice to the Superintendent-Director and the District Committee, leads the annual budget development process, directs the annual audit and ensures all financial reporting requirements are met. Melissa is responsible for overseeing both the Business Office, which includes accounting, payroll and accounts payable, and Food Service and is involved in all aspects of school operations. Melissa is an active member of The Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials where she is a mentor to aspiring School Business Administrators enrolled in the Professional Support Program.
Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from University of Massachusetts Lowell and a Master of Public Administration from Framingham State University. Melissa also serves as the Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) for the district and maintains a current MCPPO designation through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Janice AyalaDirector of Human Resources

Janice joined Greater Lawrence Technical School (GLTS) in 2016 as a Confidential Secretary to the Business Administrator and the Director of Grants and Workforce Development. In July 2020, she transitioned to her current role as Director of Human Resources. As Director of Human Resources, she develops policies and procedures as needed, oversees the benefits program and hiring process, and ensures all professional staff is appropriately licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

Lance HamelDirector of Facilities

Lance Hamel currently serves as the Director of Facilities at HS, managing a 550,000 sq. ft. building, ensuring the functionality of the HVAC/Boiler system, and building automation, as well as all custodial services and building maintenance. Lance also oversees 57 acres of campus, including synthetic and natural grass fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and an athletic track. Lance is responsible for facility planning, development, and construction, from design to completion. He oversees all construction projects and procurement of contractors and acts as the Onsite Project Manager (OPM) for each phase, from civil to structural work.
Lance’s career began as a Supervisor in bridge construction and later expanded to roles such as Structural and Civil Engineer Inspector at an engineering firm, working with MassDOT. He has also served as Acting DPW Director, Asset Manager, Streets and Parks Supervisor, and Capital Asset Manager, where he applied his expertise in structural engineering, civil works, and athletic field development.
A 1991 graduate of the Carpentry Program at GLTS, Lance joined the HS community in 2023. With a strong background in construction design and development, he has played a key role in designing and constructing additional structures and CTE classroom space on site, as well as the expansion of athletic fields, supporting the growth and development of school buildings and gounds. These projects and initiatives have supported efforts to increase access to CTE for out students and community.

Susan AlmonoDirector of Grants and Workforce Development

Susan joined the Reggie family at the 2020 height of the pandemic to oversee two areas that enhance and expand GLTS career technical education opportunities.
First, Susan is in charge of pursuing grants to supplement the GLTS budget. This enables GLTS to acquire cutting edge equipment, expand its facilities, and provide superior services to well prepare students for fast evolving technical careers.
Second, Susan oversees programs that open access to a GLTS technical education. This includes the After Dark Program where 11th and 12th graders from area high schools pursue a GLTS technical certificate. She also manages a wide variety of technical trainings for Merrimack Valley adults, in areas such as advanced manufacturing, the construction trades, the automotive industry and healthcare, so they’re ready to pursue a lucrative technical career.
Susan’s career trajectory began as a teacher in New York City, extended to working in the construction trades, continued in the Dominican Republic as an international development professional, and now has focused on workforce development with diverse communities for the past 15 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Vassar College in Science, Technology and Society, and a Master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in International Development and Appropriate Technology.

Isobel GioiaSIS Administrator

Isobel became a member of the Reggie Family in the summer of 2008 as the instructional technologist. She joined the GLTS Leadership Team in 2013. As the SIS Administrator, she is responsible for all state and federal reporting; building the Master Schedule; freshman exploratory shop placement; family and staff communications; supporting staff, students, families and administrators in all aspects related to our student information system.
Isobel is a graduate of the MSAA LLP program and holds a Masters in Business Administration from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Information Science from Hartwick College.

Brendon SullivanAssistant Principal of Humanities

Mr. Sullivan is in his 24th year as a public school educator. During that time he has served as an ELA teacher, assistant principal, central office administrator, and principal with the Saugus Public Schools.
Mr. Sullivan has a B.A. in English from Merrimack College, a MA/MAT in English from Salem State University, and CAGS in Educational Administration from American International College.

Ryan BrownAssistant Principal - Math and Science

Dr. Ryan Brown has been an educator for over a decade, beginning his career at Haverhill High School teaching Biology, Zoology, and AP Biology. He later transitioned to administration at Haverhill High School as an Assistant Principal, managing teacher evaluations, student discipline, and curriculum development.
Since 2018, Dr. Brown has served as the Assistant Principal of Math and Science at GLTS. In this role, he oversees teacher supervision and evaluation, curriculum alignment with state standards, assessment coordination, and professional development initiatives.
Dr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UMass Lowell, a Master of Science in Zoology from the University of New Hampshire, and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from Rivier University. His research centered on self-regulated learning and executive functioning among students in vocational technical education settings.
He is passionate about providing all students with high-quality science and math education that fosters critical thinking, real-world application, and the skills necessary for success in college, careers, and beyond.

Johanna FawcettDirector of Language, Culture, and Equity

Dr. Johanna Fawcett has been working in the multilingual learner field of education for over 20 years. Dr. Fawcett has been an educator of multilingual learners of all English level proficiencies, an instructional coach, and supervisor of ML educators in grades K-12.
Dr. Fawcett joined GLTS in 2022 and has worked on aligning the current district policies for multilingual learners with both state and federal requirements, making the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy a reality for GLTS students, and working to ensure all educators understand the importance of equitable teaching practices for all students, especially MLs. Dr. Fawcett is deeply passionate about ensuring that families and caregivers are empowered as equal partners in their children's educational journey and future aspirations and is actively working to build the GLTS ELPAC to be a self-sustaining organization.
Dr. Fawcett has a Bachelors of Art in Legal Studies and Sociology with minors in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts- Amherst, a Masters of Arts in Education of English Language Learners from Cambridge College, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with a focus on Cultural Competency of School Leaders working with ELs and Families.

Lauren JonesDirector of Career and Technical Education

Ms. Jones has been dedicated to serving the students of Greater Lawrence Technical School (GLTS) since 2010. Before transitioning into education, she spent over a decade in the Architectural and Engineering Industry, beginning in residential construction and then specializing in corporate interiors and historic preservation. With extensive knowledge of programming, design, and construction in corporate environments, she was able to merge her technical expertise with her passion for education.
Ms. Jones joined GLTS as an Instructor of Architectural Design and Drafting and now serves as the Director of Career and Technical Education (CTE). In this role, she oversees all Career and Technical Programs, ensuring equitable opportunities and access for students. She actively monitors compliance with state and federal CTE regulations, collaborates on competitive grants, and ensures that CTE course curricula align with the Massachusetts State Frameworks. Under her leadership, GLTS has successfully launched six new Chapter 74 programs, expanding industry-aligned pathways and career opportunities for students.
Ms. Jones holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design with a concentration in Historic Preservation from Fordham University and a Master’s in Curriculum and Teaching from Fitchburg State University. She remains committed to advancing technical education and workforce readiness, ensuring that GLTS students graduate with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their chosen careers.

Panagiota AthinelisDirector of Teaching & Learning

Dr.Panagiota Athinelis has dedicated her career to advancing teaching and learning in both academic and technical education. She currently serves as the Director of Teaching and Learning at Greater Lawrence Technical School, where she oversees curriculum development, professional learning, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and instructional initiatives aligned with the district’s mission.
Dr. Athinelis is also an adjunct professor at Lesley University, where she teaches graduate courses on disciplinary literacy and equitable teaching practices. Her extensive background includes roles as a reading specialist, instructional coach, career and technical education coordinator, assistant principal, and district curriculum leader, equipping her with a deep understanding of instructional best practices. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Studies from Lesley University, where her research focused on student agency in career and technical education.
She also earned a Master of Education in Reading from Salem State University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Deree College – The American College of Greece.
Dr. Athinelis is deeply committed to career and technical education and passionate about increasing both student and teacher agency. She values collaboration, teamwork, and bringing people together to create meaningful learning experiences, ensuring that multiple perspectives inform and strengthen educational practices.

Lindsay GangiCareer and Technical Education Coordinator

Lindsay embarked on her journey in education at GLTS in 2008, initially serving as a Health Assisting instructor. Her extensive background in healthcare, particularly as a Registered Nurse, provided her with invaluable industry experience that she seamlessly brought into the classroom. As lead instructor, Lindsay played a pivotal role in expanding the program, including the successful development and integration of the Medical Assisting department.
In 2021, Ms. Gangi elevated her role by joining the leadership team as a Career & Technical Education Coordinator. In this capacity, she oversees multiple disciplines, including Business Technology, Cosmetology, Dental Assisting, Early Education & Care, Health Assisting, Information Technology, Medical Assisting, and Programming & Web Development.
Lindsay holds undergraduate degrees in Nursing from Excelsior University and Health Education & Promotion from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, as well as a Master of Education with a concentration in Curriculum & Teaching from Fitchburg State University.
Driven by a deep commitment to ensuring all students have equitable access to high-quality, rigorous career and technical education, Lindsay works closely with educators, industry partners, and community stakeholders to develop innovative programs that prepare students for success in their post-secondary pathway. She believes all students deserve opportunities to engage in authentic, hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to real-world careers, empowering them to explore, grow, and thrive.

Donald DucharmeCareer and Technical Education Coordinator

Mr. Ducharme joined the administrative team at GLTS in July of 2024. He began his career in vocational education in 2003 as a Masonry Instructor at Greater Lowell Technical High School. This is also where he gained administrative experience becoming the Transportation and Manufacturing Cluster Chairperson. After 15 years at Greater Lowell, he became a CTE Director at Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical School, and was there for 6 years until coming to GLTS.
He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a Masters degree in Education Administration from American International College.

Tina NutterDirector of Special Education

Tina Nutter brings 28 years of experience in education to Greater Lawrence Technical School. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs through special education leadership and advocacy. In fall 2024, she joined Greater Lawrence Technical School as the Director of Special Education, continuing her commitment to ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive and become independent.
Tina began her journey in education as a paraprofessional in 1995 while earning her master’s degree in Special Education. She became a teacher in 1998 and transitioned into a leadership role in 2011. Her experience spans inner-city and suburban settings, as well as elementary, middle, and high school levels, with the majority of her work focused on high school students.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (1994) and a Master’s degree from Cambridge College (1998). From paraprofessional to Director of Special Education, Tina’s career reflects a lifelong dedication to fostering student success and promoting equity in special education.

Christa GillisAssistant Principal of SAFE

Christa joined the GLTS community in August of 2010 as the Athletic Director/Wellness Supervisor. In 2014 Christa moved to the Discipline Office as one of the Administrative Deans and in 2022 was named as Assistant Principal. As the Assistant Principal of SAFE, Christa is responsible for working with students, families and staff in regards to all discipline, family engagement, student activities and Social Emotional Learning.
Christa is a 1999 graduate of Regis College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, and a 2005 Masters of Physical Education in Athletic Administration graduate of Springfield College. Christa also holds graduate certificates in Social Emotional Learning and School Climate from William James College as well as a graduate certificate in Trauma Sensitivity from Lesley College. Christa is currently working on her Doctorate in Education from Bay Path University.

Mr. Vogel has worked at GLTS since 2015. He has been working for 27 years as an educator within three public school districts in Massachusetts; 20 of those years have been in school administration. Mr. Vogel helps to supervise the SAFE office (Student and Family Engagement) and deals with student attendance and discipline. Mr. Vogel has a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision.

Mike NelsonAthletic Director/Wellness Supervisor

Mike Nelson has dedicated his career to education and athletics, bringing over two decades of experience to Greater Lawrence Technical School. A graduate of Salem State University (Class of 2000), Mike began his journey as a Physical Education teacher at Saugus High School, where he also coached multiple sports and played an active role in co-curricular activities.
In 2004, he earned a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Cambridge College, paving the way for leadership roles in education. By 2008, Mike was appointed Athletic Director and Wellness Director for Saugus Public Schools, a position he held for eight years before transitioning into an Assistant Principal at Saugus High School.
His passion for athletics led him to take on dual roles as both Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, a demanding yet rewarding position he held for several years. In 2017, Mike made the exciting decision to join the Reggie community, where he now serves as the Director of Athletics, Wellness, and Facilities Rentals at GLTS.

Marybeth RinglandDirector of Food Services

Marybeth Ringland is a highly experienced and dedicated food service professional with a long-standing career in the culinary field. A graduate of the 1982 Culinary Arts program at GLTS, Marybeth developed a strong foundation in the culinary arts early in her career. Following her passion, she furthered her education by earning an Associate's Degree in the Advanced Standing Program at Johnson & Wales University in 1983, an institution renowned for its culinary excellence. In 1994, Marybeth returned to GLTS, beginning her career in the school's cafeteria. Her passion for the culinary arts and commitment to excellence led her to her current role as the Food Service Director, where she oversees the daily operations and ensures that the cafeteria continues to provide high-quality meals to students and staff. Marybeth’s journey is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and dedication to the culinary profession.
