Superintendent
Superintendent-Director John N. Lavoie was a member and Valedictorian of the second graduating class at Greater Lawrence Technical School. His desire to share his passion for carpentry started when he became a Carpentry Instructor at Greater Lawrence Technical School in 1973 until 1996. Supt. Lavoie furthered his education at night and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education.
Superintendent Lavoie’s leadership continued in 1996 as an Administrator at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School and Greater Lowell Technical High School, where he served as Assistant Superintendent prior to returning to Greater Lawrence Technical School in July, 2010 as Superintendent-Director, dedicating Fifty-two years to vocational education.
Superintendent Lavoie brings a hands-on approach to educational leadership and brings value to both academic and vocational pathways, while balancing the financial needs of the school. His leadership values exemplifies the promotion of maintaining high standards for all students while promoting equity in education and providing quality career training. Over the past fifteen years, through his hard work and dedication as Superintendent-Director, Supt. Lavoie sees as one of his successes as providing more access for students, growing Greater Lawrence Technical School from 1,195 to 1,930 students. His future plan is to continue that growth until his retirement. He believes that GLTS is the backbone that supports the economic growth throughout our sending communities.
