MCAS Testing Information

Important dates, guidelines, and resources for the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) testing.

Test Dates

English Language Arts

Tuesday, March 24

Mathematics

Wednesday, May 20

Biology

Tuesday, June 2

Wednesday, June 3

General Information

  • All MCAS exams are computer-based
  • All students will be provided a Chromebook
  • Students on IEPs or 504s will have access to plan-appropriate accommodations
  • All students can change background color, adjust mouse pointer size, and mask incorrect answers
  • Students have until the end of the school day to finish each test session
  • Cell phones and electronic devices must be turned in during testing
  • Teachers are preparing students using online sample tests and resources

Test-Specific Information

English Language Arts

  • Two days/sessions of testing
  • Computer-based format
  • Questions include multiple choice, multiple select, technology enhanced, and text-based essay
  • Aligned to the 2017 Massachusetts ELA Curriculum Framework

Mathematics

  • Two days/sessions of testing
  • Computer-based format
  • Questions include multiple choice, multiple select, technology enhanced, short answer/fill-in-the-blank, and constructed response
  • Aligned to the 2017 Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework
  • All students receive an MCAS formula reference sheet
  • Calculators not allowed on day 1, but provided for day 2

High School Biology

  • Two days/sessions of testing
  • Computer-based format
  • Questions include multiple choice, multiple select, technology enhanced, and constructed response
  • Aligned to the 2016 Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework
